      Suffrage Celebration Open House

On Sunday, October 13 from 2:00-5:00 p.m., the League of Women Voters of Asheville-Buncombe will host an open house celebrating the 100th anniversary of two important events - the passage of the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote and the 100th Anniversary of the founding of the League of Women Voters. The event will be held at the historic Patton Parker House, 95 Charlotte Street, where the North Carolina Equal Suffrage Association was formed and the fight for woman’s suffrage was launched in North Carolina.

Attendees will learn about the birth of the woman’s suffrage movement in North Carolina including stories about the African-American women who were leaders in the Asheville community.

Games of old-fashioned croquet will be available for attendees courtesy of Jim Seward and friends of Black Mountain Croquet Club. Fabulous hats will be on display and available for purchase, courtesy of Sandra Suber of Ianodell’s Hat Shop. Hors d' oeuvres will be served throughout the afternoon and ice cream will be available for purchase from The Hop. Discount ice cream coupons will go to those wearing period attire.

The event, along with parking, is free and open to the public.
