Fountain Park United Methodist Church partnering with Group Workcamps will sponsor a “Love Your Neighbor” workcamp June 21-27, 2020 in Sheboygan County.

Over 400 teenagers and adults will come to Sheboygan County to improve the homes of elderly, disabled, and low-income residents. As many as 45-55 residents will benefit from the work. These home repairs will be provided free through partnerships with local organizations in Sheboygan County.

Group Workcamps are a non-profit, interdenominational Christian volunteer home-repair organization headquartered in Fort Collins, Colorado. This summer, almost 14,000 young people and adults will participate in 35 Workcamps in communities across the United States.
At each Workcamp, teenagers and adults—members of church youth groups—volunteer a week of their time to repair homes throughout the community. “These really are remarkable young people,” said Jeff Thompson, of Group Mission Trips. “Each one is actually paying for the privilege of working in your community. Workcamp registration fees are used to cover costs for food, insurance, and building materials.”
The Workcamp participants will be housed at Horace Mann Middle School, with the campers sleeping in classrooms, eating in the cafeteria, and enjoying evening programs in the gym. “This service to the community is made possible with the wonderful cooperation of the Sheboygan Area School District and the wonderful staff of Horace Mann,” said Lisa Radder, Fountain Park UMC coordinator. “The kitchen & custodial staff are giving up part of the summer vacation to be of service to the workcampers.”

Group Mission Workcamps has been partnering with and helping communities across the United States and the world since the early 1990’s as a non-profit mission ministry. Since the beginning, Group Mission Trips has hosted over 480,00 participants who have provided more than 14 million of volunteer hours serving people in need. This summer’s 35 Workcamps will take place in several states, including Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Maine, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and West Virginia.

All these years later, one constant remains true: Group Mission Trips strongly believes in providing opportunities for teenagers to encounter Jesus through serving others either in their own backyard or halfway across the globe.

Repairs offered through the Workcamp include interior and exterior painting, weatherization, porch and wheelchair ramp construction, and other work.

Residents interested in applying to receive assistance can obtain an application by visiting the Fountain Park Church website at Hard copies of applications can be picked up at Fountain Park United Methodist Church or First Congregational - Sheboygan, Saron UCC in Sheboygan Falls or New Life Church in Plymouth. Cost: Free - I'm not totally sure how this works. But we are looking for an ad to be printed in the Sheboygan Press as well. We are trying to reach as many people as possible that would be interested in applying to have their homes repaired next summer. Applications are being taken now. There is no costs to the residence who are having their homes repaired or improved. Please contact me if there is something more I can do to get the word out through the Sheb Press. My email is: Thank you for your consideration. John Winter
