Empire Strikes Brass to Headline Tryon Beer Fest November 2, 2019 Headlining the Tryon Beer Festival will be Asheville’s Empire Strikes Brass. Empire Strikes Brass (ESB) is a high energy Brass-Funk-Rock band rooted in the New Orleans Brass Band tradition of second-line parades and deep moving grooves reminiscent of old school funk. The fat sound of the horns paired with one dirty rhythm section makes the music downright psychedelically nasty! Founded in 2012, ESB intentionally stretches the boundaries of the stereotypical brass band paradigm, fusing sounds from various genres and weaving them together with the common thread of Brass. Featuring rich group and strong lead vocals including Grammy Award winner Debrissa Mckinney (Secret Agent 23 Skidoo), ESB not only takes its audiences on a ride to the dark side and back instrumentally, they also use the force of soaring melody and lush harmony to transport the listeners to another dimension. The band released its debut album, "Theme For A Celebration" in 2017 and it was tapped as one of the top 100 album releases in 2017 by WNCW 88.7 radio. Since their conception, ESB has been a consistent fixture at various festivals throughout the east coast. They've had the pleasure of having Warren Haynes (Allman Bros. Band and Gov’t Mule) sit in with them at New Mountain Amphitheater in Asheville, NC and the honor of headlining four years in a row celebrating the life of Dizzy Gillespie in his hometown of Cheraw, SC, for the South Carolina Jazz and Heritage Festival. The band is known to regularly parade off stage into the audience leading the crowd in a raucous procession around the venue before, during or after their set. Find out more about Empire Strikes Brass at Opening the festival is Tryon local, the Rich Nelson Band. Originally from Detroit, Rich has been making music and art in the mountains of North Carolina since 2004. After stints in a number of Carolina bands including 176 and the Trophy Husbands, he recorded his first solo record 'Ever Since Now' in 2018. The Rich Nelson Band features Rich on guitar and vocals, Stephen Cohen on bass, Bob Bencze on keys, Tim McCall on guitar and Robert George on drums. More information on the Rich Nelson Band and his music can be found at The Tryon Beer Festival features local, regional and national craft beers at the Tryon Depot, overlooking Historic Downtown Tryon during the peak of leaf season along the Blue Ridge Escarpment. The small town feel and unique setting of the festival creates a relaxed, fun atmosphere unlike some of the bigger city festivals. Tickets are limited to 1000 attendees to make sure the festival stays comfortable and ensure no lines. Every year, the festival includes a popular oyster roast – purchase by the bucket or try out an oyster shooter. Tryon is conveniently located off Interstate 26 between Greenville and Spartanburg, SC and Asheville, NC. There are a variety of bed and breakfasts and vacation rentals and plenty to do to enjoy a whole weekend in Downtown Tryon, including a number of independent shops and restaurants as well as outdoor adventures and historic sites such as the birthplace of Nina Simone.
