For the months of November and December 2019, West Milford Township Library invites you to enjoy the works of local artist Oscar Beck. Born in Vienna in 1950, Beck spent his early youth in Brazil, when his family moved to Sao Paolo, then settled in the United States in 1960. Influenced by a variety of cultural experiences, Beck embarked upon a teaching career as a fine arts instructor in several prestigious private schools. His multidisciplinary classes embraced photography, art history, painting, drawing as well as a multitude of other activities. Currently he continues to offer private lessons while displaying his artwork in various locations. He is an active member of the Ringwood Manor Art Association, the Center of Contemporary Arts, and the Morris County Art Association. Oscar Beck has received numerous awards in painting, drawing, photography, and sculpture.

According to Art Critic Emanuel Heller of the Courier News, “Oscar Beck doesn’t need the unpredictable variable of canvas, brush, and paint to express himself. He does very well with the humble graphite pencil. His remarkably rendered realistic drawings are meticulously worked creating nuance and subtlety. Beck’s handling of these extremely detailed figures is structured to control the intricate play of surface and texture with great understanding. All of Beck’s drawings pull the viewer in because of their substance and complexity.”
